Moving to any new country takes adjustment, but Hua Hin is considered one of the easier places in Thailand for first-time expats. Here’s a realistic picture of your first 30 days.
First week priorities
Get a local SIM card (True, AIS, or DTAC all work well). Find your way around using Google Maps, most major roads and landmarks are well labelled in English. Open a bank account early as this takes time and is needed for almost everything.
Transport
Hua Hin is best navigated by motorbike or car. Motorbike taxis (songthaew) are available for short trips in town. Renting a motorbike costs THB 3,000 to 5,000/month; a car from THB 12,000 to 20,000/month. Grab (the regional Uber) operates in Hua Hin.
Making connections
The expat community is active and welcoming. Facebook groups like ‘Hua Hin Expats’ are useful for practical questions. Monthly meet-ups, golf groups, and sports clubs all run regularly.
