Hua Hin is not a party destination and it is not a shopping city. What it offers is something different: beaches, good food, golf, cycling, and an easy pace of life that most expats come to love. Once you look past the main beach. The surrounding area has plenty to explore.

Beaches

The main Hua Hin beach stretches for several kilometres and is kept relatively clean. South of the main beach, Khao Takiab has a more local feel with a fishing village and a small temple at the base of the headland. North of Hua Hin, Cha-am beach is quieter and popular with Thai families. Further south, beaches around Pranburi are among the least-developed and most beautiful in the region.

Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park

About 45 minutes south of Hua Hin, Khao Sam Roi Yot (‘Mountain of 300 Peaks’) is a limestone hill national park with dramatic scenery, caves with Buddhist shrines, wetlands, and birdwatching. The Phraya Nakhon Cave (accessible by boat and a short hike) is one of the most photographed sights in Thailand. A half-day or full-day trip from Hua Hin.

Golf

Hua Hin is one of Asia’s premier golf destinations. With 20+ courses within an hour’s drive, regular golf is a cornerstone of expat life here. See our Golf guide for detail.

Night Markets

The Hua Hin Night Market on Dechanuchit Road operates most evenings and is a good place to eat, browse, and people-watch. The Cicada Market operates on weekends and has more of an arts-and-crafts feel with food, music, and design goods.

Cycling

The flat coastal roads and quieter inland routes around Hua Hin are well-suited to cycling. Several cycling groups operate regular early-morning rides, check the local Facebook groups. Bike rental is readily available in town.

Water Sports

Kitesurfing is popular in the Hua Hin area, particularly at the beaches north of town where winds are consistent. Kayaking, paddleboarding, and boat trips are also available.

Day Trips

  • Cha-Am: Quiet beach town 30 minutes north. Good for a relaxed day.
  • Pranburi Forest Park: Mangrove boardwalks and a beautiful undeveloped beach. 30 minutes south.
  • Phetchaburi: Historic town with temples and caves. 45 minutes north.
  • Floating markets: Several floating markets are within 60 to 90 minutes. Good for Thai cultural experience.
